Welcome to The Balanced Practice, where we embrace and celebrate neurodiversity! Let’s start by debunking the idea that being neurodivergent is a weakness – this is completely false! Your neurodivergence can actually be your superpower. At The Balanced Practice, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, affirming, and personalized support for individuals navigating ASD, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence and embracing their neurodivergent identities.
Neurodivergence is an umbrella term encompassing a range of neurodevelopmental variations, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and more. Neurodivergent individuals often possess unique strengths and perspectives, challenging traditional norms and contributing to diverse ways of thinking and operating.
ADHD is estimated to affect around 5-10% of children and adolescents worldwide, with a significant number continuing to experience symptoms into adulthood.
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that has 3 different subtypes:
Historically, ADHD has been underdiagnosed in girls and women. Recent research is shedding light on the unique presentation of ADHD in females, highlighting the need for gender-informed diagnosis and treatment.
We know that neurodivergent folks are more prone to mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, burnout and eating disorders. This is why getting proper support is extremely important for overall health.
At The Balanced Practice, we believe in a providing affirming nutrition counselling to support neurodivergent folks in accessing the support they need. Our approach is evidence based, lived experience informed, inclusive and person centered.
Neurotypical approaches to care may not be best suited for you. As unique as your neurospicy brain is and how you experience your life, we believe in a personalized approach to your nutrition.
The relationship between nutrition and neurodivergence is clear. As much as nutrition can impact the brain, neurodivergent folks may experience eating and food very differently. Understand your landscape and experience is at the heart of our intervention.
Nutrition counselling for ADHD and neurodivergence at The Balanced Practice is offered by Registered Dietitians (RD). The first step is to have a nutrition assessment. After this session, you will connect with your RD regularly for follow-up sessions where you will continue to work towards your treatment goals together.
