The Impact of Nutrition

Welcome to The Balanced Dietitian Podcast! Hello friends and welcome to the podcast. Welcome to the month of March! March is officially Nutrition Month.

Today I wanted to talk about nutrition to honor Nutrition Month. I am going to talk about nutrition the anti-diet way. I am going to talk about the impact of nutrition and if it really is that important.

In this episode, we discuss:

[07:11] Nutrition is important but it is not the end all be all

[09:47] Consistency over time is what matters

[11:06] Our relationship with food is the most important

[12:30] The general benefits of balanced nutrition

[16:41] When we have a good relationship to food things stabilize

[07:11] Nutrition is important but it is not the end all be all

Nutrition is important and has its role but it is not the end all be all. It’s not as intense as we think and it’s not as difficult as we think. So, yes nutrition is important but it is not as important as we have been told in the past.

[09:47] Consistency over time is what matters

Some of what we do in one day doesn’t really matter. What we do consistently over time over months over years, is what truly matters. The same applies to nutrition and being able to find that balance for ourselves. No one is perfect and we are never aiming to be perfect. Nutrition is important and it’s one of many different determinants of our health.

[11:06] Our relationship with food is the most important

Nutrition in that way is extremely important and our relationship with food is the most important because our human body is expensive to keep alive. Your body needs food every day, multiple times a day. In that sense, I do believe that nutrition is so important that we are not struggling every day multiple times a day. When we are able to have a better relationship with food and find our own balance everything else falls into place.

[12:30] The general benefits of balanced nutrition

There are the general benefits of balanced nutrition. When we are able to balance our meals with different nutrients that our body needs to function properly, our organs, our energy, and everything that regulates within our body. There are some key principles of nutrition to keep our bodies in a space where it’s safe and can optimize, thrive, and feel better. When we are able to find our strong foundation and ways to nourish our bodies depending on our lifestyle, preference, habits, and what we like to do next, that’s when we really find a way to live a balanced life.

[16:41] When we have a good relationship to food things stabilize

When we have a good relationship with food, things stabilize and our body loves stability and balance. Things are stable, things are calm, decisions are made consciously, and food is allowed and enjoyed. There’s less stress, there’s no guilt, and no ties attached to it. The big difference is that it just feels different and we know that when we heal our relationship with food in our body, it’s much easier to sustain health-promoting behaviors. It’s much easier to take care of ourselves and we’re coming at it from a place of loving ourselves and wanting to take care of ourselves and having that feeling of deserving and worthy of taking care of ourselves.
